An Answer For: What Is A Virus?

Posted by Peter Brando 23 November, 2009

You can’t own a computer with access to the Internet and be uneducated about the risks floating around cyberspace. These said risks are malicious bits of software and programming that’s sole purpose is to ruin a perfectly running computer, and everyone is at risk. These are better known as viruses. But what is a virus?

They are known more commonly as viruses, because it similarly affects a computer as someone with a serious infection. The malicious processes begin to work against your computer’s programming to destroy it from the inside.

You can lump together spyware, adware and viruses together into one common pot. This is not entirely true, however. You see, spyware and adware exist to acquire information about you personally through your behavior and spending online. A virus exists quite simply to ruin your computer, in whole or in part.

Many of us have recently realized that no matter who we are and what we do online, the likelihood of contracting such a virus is still pretty high. Many thought, and still think, that you get viruses through unmentionable website viewing and non-secure downloads from various sites. While this might be true in part, it is only true in part. Truthfully, anyone is susceptible now.

The best defense against computer viruses is anti-virus software. There are many names to choose from, yet some of the more popular names in the field include Kaspersky, McAfee and AVG. Most of these companies offer free trial periods of their latest software so that you can see first hand how they work to prevent you from getting infected.

So you know a little more about viruses now, and so you can get yourself some adequate protection from them.

It is imperative that you take measures to save your pc from malicious software and learn exactly what a virus is to help.
