Are You Looking For Parenting Advice?
Parenting advice for children that are younger than teenage years is something most people need. The teenage years are something I can not even begin to give you advice on. People much more qualified than me, will need to give you advice on teenagers. I am not even going to touch that one. Let’s concentrate on the younger years. The years that are important for shaping your child into the man or woman they will become.
Most parents will tell you that the job of parenting is rewarding but hard. It is not always easy to be sure you are doing right by your children. The best piece of advice I can give you is to do everything out of love for you child. When punishing your children never do it because of anger, do it out of love instead. Love you children and that will be the best thing you ever did for them.
Some things need to be kept in mind when raising a toddler. You will have times when your toddler just breaks down and throws a temper tantrum. The best way to stop it, is to prevent it. Toddlers that are at home all day with a parent need exercise, a short walk or something similar is a great way to give them the exercise they need. Also remember to play with your toddler, I do not mean spending the whole day entertaining your toddler, that would be very unrealistic.
These are things that will stimulated your child. If kept busy and stimulated enough they are much easier to handle. The temper tantrums will not be as plentiful as they were. A schedule can help prevent tantrums too. A toddler likes to know what they can expect. A schedule will give your toddler a feeling of security and they will take naps and bedtime much better and with fewer melt downs.
When children out grow the toddler age and hit the school ages things start to change for you and for them. When your child starts school they feel like they are finally a big kid. Now it is time for you to treat them like a big kid. Giving your school aged children light chores after school is a great way to teach them responsibility. The chore will need to depend on the age of the child. Do not expect a five or six year old to clean the entire kitchen.
When it is time to discipline your school age child, especially the ones that have just started school you should expect a few melt downs. A kindergartner has still not quite outgrown the toddler ways and they may just start throwing a tantrum like they use to. This would be the perfect time to start teaching them to voice their feelings. You should tell you child that telling you his is mad or frustrated is fine, but that it needs to be done with respect.
Getting this advice to work on every child every time is not likely to happen. There will come times when tougher discipline is in order. If things are getting out of hand, no matter the child’s age it is time for the parent to put a stop to it. We all want to be understanding and sweet to our kids but let’s face it that is not always the best way to handle things. Tough love is something every parent has to give their child at some point and that is perfectly fine.
There are many ways to discipline a child even if you choose to not spank your kids. Younger children respond well to time outs, but older children usually do not care if they are in time out. A time out will more than likely not work on a twelve year old child. With a child this age you should consider taking away something they enjoy. Take away something they often use and enjoy and put it away. Do not give it back until the bad behavior is no more.
