Drug addiction, a phenomenon increasing day by day, is associated with a strong and uncontrollable urge to use drugs. When it takes hold of someone, it becomes the deciding factor of all his or her motives. Described by the Diagnostic, and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fourth Edition as a pathological state, it is something that can limit, and even ruin the normal functioning of the brain of a person, if it is taken over a large span of time repeatedly.
Drug addiction is one of the most encountered health disorders by the youth of today. Described as a pathological condition, where the diagnosis of drug inflicted diseases are made through bodily fluids, drug addiction refers to a state of an extensive use of drugs, which gradually leads to its dependency, making the person vulnerable to relapse while giving a slow response to other stimuli, which are naturally rewarding.
What is addiction? Generally, people understand addiction to be “hooked on drugs”, but it is much more than just that. Addiction can be caused by prescribed medicine, coffee, television, and even shopping. Do you feel that you are turning into an addict? Ask yourself if you can give up this addiction for a day, a week, a month, a year, or forever. If you cannot, then you are becoming addicted to “the thing”.

Boys release stress through drugs. Therefore, the ratio of depression due to excessive use of drugs is also seen more amongst men. Moreover, sexually transmitted diseases are also a gift of drug addiction.
There is a long list of harmful drugs which have ruined the health and lives of human beings since ages. One of these harmful drugs is known as cocaine. It adversely affects the health of a person, and it is imperative for all of us to find out what this drug is all about. Cocaine is extracted from a tropical plant, called Coca plant. It has the ability to function on two levels: it acts as a stimulant to boost to the central nervous system and deposits a kind of anaesthetic in the body. This creates numbness throughout the body as it circulates in the body with blood.
A rehabilitation centre is normally the final expedient for a person who has either gone through an extreme emotional shock or is suffering from any serious mental illness that causes psychiatric condition or physical pain. People who are trying to quit any form of drugs including cocaine and alcohol can also come to a rehab to get help. The basic idea behind a rehab is of a place where patients, facing a problem that does not allow them to function properly, come to rebuild their confidence and capabilities to overcome their weaknesses.
The minute you hear the word addiction, you get only negative vibes in your mind about the person who indulges intentionally in such actions, and you start associating a kind of weakness to that person- weakness in his character, will power and values.
Addiction mainly refers to dependency on a behaviour or sub-substance that a person is unable to stop. The fact that most people are unaware of is that it is an advancing syndrome, which implies that it exacerbates over time.
