Finding the Perfect Tap Water Filter

Posted by Nigil Marks 17 November, 2009

Everyone looks to have a tap water filter today. They are simple and affordable and useful tools to get clean, good-tasting water directly from your very own kitchen’s tap. Previously, if you wanted fresh and tasty water you could only find it at the local grocery store and pick up a jug of pure and fresh water. The collective costs of bottled purified water can definitely pile up over the course of year. This is especially true if you happen to drink a large amount of water each day.

The two most predominant brands on store shelves today are Pur and Britta, though there are more. The differences between separate brands in themselves are tiny, but the differences between filter models are huge. While they all do give clean water, some break more often than others and some even have special features. Determining which kind fits your household’s wants and needs is completely up to you.

Each tap water filter essentially works in the same way. The inner filters inside of their casing have electro-positive carbon installed, which attracts any possibly harmful materials that may be inside of the water. As the water passes into the filter, the negative particles attach themselves to the carbon and the water goes through perfectly clean. This filtration technology is very effective and it can make tap water taste better than it ever did before. You also must replace the cartridges every one and a half to three months to keep getting clean water. If you don’t, the filter turns useless.

Depending on the system, they may be turned on in one of two primary ways. The traditional models are switched on depending on whether you want filtered or unfiltered water or not. You can’t run too warm water through these when they are in filter position due to the fact that they will crack internally and have to be replaced. The other kind is simply controlled by button, so there is no risk of cracking or breaking. Whichever you finally decide on will probably come down to the price, as models with the push-button activation are digital, and hence more likely less affordable than the turning-style systems.

The filter in a tap water filter can extract any possible harmful particles in your water as well as any unwanted minerals, either of which can make the water taste metallic or even sour. In order to ensure that the system in working order the filters must be replaced. If you are concerned about having to use a filter and throw it away, Britta does make recyclable filters.

In case you are doubtful of the water quality that comes from your area and don’t want to have to continue spending money on water bottles every day, then investing in a quality tap water filter is a very good. There is no better way to get pure water from your own home, and it is significantly more affordable than having to go and purchase water all of the time.

Tap water is often not safe to drink. Instead of spending hundreds on pre-filtered water a month, consider getting a tap water filter for your home.
