Fireplace Email Forwards

Funny forwards are a method of passing on emails to someone who did not receive the original email. This may be a work colleague or friend that does not have contact with the original sender. The following was forwarded to me earlier today:

A fireplace is located within a building and is intended to hold a fire for heating and sometimes for cooking purposes. Fireplaces can use electric fires or fuel fires or perhaps some other form of heating system. The fire is usually held within a firebox or a small pit, and some kind of chimney or a similar system helps the exhaust to escape the house. Historically the fireplace was a central feature within the home, although this has become less common.

The fires can be powered in a number of ways. Wood is the oldest of fuels and may have been the first to be used to create a heat source. Sometimes, peat would have been used as it lasted longer than wood and also burnt at a more efficient rate. Coal as fuel became increasing popular from the eighteenth century. Electric fires came with the development of the electric current. Recently, bio-fuels and propane are becoming more widely used.

Some older fireplaces have been kept as design features within a building. These may not have the original heating system within them, but are left to enhance the ambiance of the room. Some of the heating systems may have been replaced with modern equivalents. Electric heaters may have been introduced to provide heat without the fire. Some are left empty and used for purely decorative reasons.

A fireplace may use some or all of these components: a hearth, a foundation, a fireplace mantel, a chimney crane, a cap, a smoke chamber, a firebox, an ash-dump door, a lintel, a chimney breast, a cleanout door, over-mantel, a throat, a flue, a damper, a chimney chase, a spark arrestor, a crown, or a shroud.

There are several types of fireplace. Masonry fireplaces are constructed from brick or stone. Some are made from reinforced concrete, but these are fundamentally flawed as the concrete and metal expand at different rates. This means that many old fireplaces have vertical cracks leading up the chimney.

A prefabricated fireplace is a popular design for newer buildings. They are usually made from a metal firebox and a long metal pipe that acts as a chimney to vent the exhaust fumes. As it is made of metal it often generates sparks, so a spark arrester is usually fitted.

A duct free fireplace is fueled by LP/bottled gas, gel or a natural gas. Most are easy to install and do not utilize the same BTUs as other fireplaces do. Many countries have enforced regulations regarding the installation of this kind of fireplace. Some duct free fireplaces can burn at nearly 100% efficiency. However, they do tend to produce a lot of moisture as a side effect.

Bio-ethanol fireplaces are flue-less fires, in that they do not require ventilation or a chimney. This makes them one hundred percent efficient as they push all the heat into the room. They are powered by bio-fuels that are usually produced from starch or sugar. The do not produce soot, only water, carbon dioxide and a small amount of carbon monoxide.
