Breaking free from substance addictions

If you or someone you love has an addiction, your life can seem a little bit hopeless. Many people who are suffering from addiction are tormented with their inability to stop what they know is ruining their lives. Many feel as if there is nowhere to turn or that they just don’t have it in them to stop doing what they are doing. How can they cope? Where can they turn? Who really understands what they are going through? These are common thoughts that run through an addicts mind at all hours of the day.

Most of us do not go through our childhood planning on being an addict when we get older. There are many psychological reasons why some people turn to alcohol or drugs. It can be a traumatic event in our young lives that we are not able to deal with and do not get help for, it can be the death of a loved one that causes us such heart break, or we could just be experiencing out of peer pressure. There is not one cause for why some people become addicted and others don’t.

If there is a loving family or friends who have not given up or walked away from the addict, this can be a saving grace. As a loved one, you may have to step back for awhile, making sure not to enable their behaviour but always reminding them that they are loved and not forgotten.

Street drugs are perhaps the worst offenders as in that these drugs are very highly concentrated created to get someone hooked and coming back for more. In the case of prescription drugs, if you use it as directed it is not a high dosage which is why it is legal. For years, nicotine companies have been providing another legal drug to the general public. Although each cigarette may have a small dosage of each chemical it contains, there is enough of a addictive quality to it to get you hooked over time.

If you decide it is time to quit, or if someone confronts you with your problem and you are willing to try to come clean to save your life and keep your family, you are going to need help.

Being strong even when the addict may have stolen from you to feed their gambling habit, or is doing sordid things to feed their substance abuse habit, can often seem like an impossible feat. You need to remember that the person who is doing these things now, is not the person you love so dearly. If you cannot find a way to help them, that person who is so very lost may very well stay that way for a very long time. Love heals all wounds, find the courage to go on and be the strength your loved one suffering from addiction needs to find their way back home.

Keep trying, if at first the addict does not seem ready to accept your help and get back on track, stay focused and give it a little more time. Reinforce your position by showing them you care but will not help them hurt themselves any longer. Sometimes, that can even mean having the addict arrested, as harsh as that may seem, it could save a life in the long run.

You do not have to be lost in a half-life, being caught in the grips of an invisible monster who is controlling your life and slowly taking a part of you each day. Grab that evil by the horns and make the decision to claim your LIFE back today!

Save your loved ones from the strongholds of addiction; get full details on how to help them break free from any kind of chemical or substance addiction.
