Review of The Dr. Siegal Cookie Diet
The famed “cookie diet” is based on eating six cookies a day along with one healthy dinner. It also has shakes. (This concept is very similar to Slimfast.) This cookie diet was created by MD Dr. Sanford Siegal.
500,000 people, including celebrities feel his diet is wonderful. These cookies aren’t dessert cookies; these cookies are full of protein and fiber. Protein and fiber is what keeps you full according to Dr. Siegal. He bakes these cookies every day in his own bakery.
There are pros and cons to this diet however. The program is calorie restricted, the basis being 800-1000 calories per day. Your meals during the day are the cookies or a shake. This diet may work well for some, but will not work for everyone. If the cookies or shake doesn’t satisfy your appetite, you will be tempted to eat more which will add more calories. Anything that is too restrictive will be hard to follow.
Another point is that there is no exercise or weight maintenance program once you have reached your goal. So when you go off the diet, you will eventually gain back the weight unless you resume dieting. Permanent weight loss is obtained when you permanently change your normal eating habits. Studies show that once you go off a diet and resume normal eating, most dieters tend to gain the weight back plus an additional 10 pounds or more.
While this diet does help some people lose weight, and some celebrities love it, the cookie diet is not suitable for everyone. Specifically, this diet is not suitable for people with Hypothyroidism or Insulin Sensitivity. Both of these conditions are medical conditions that not only make it hard to lose weight, but can actually make a person gain weight as well. This is because the metabolism is much slower than it should be. Restrictive dieting with not enough calories causes this already slow metabolism to slow down even further. That means that this diet would actually be ineffective for people with these conditions.
Pros: Lots of people swear by this diet TV shows like Today, CNN and “The Morning Show” have featured the cookie diet. Ashlee Simpson, Denise Richards and the Kardashian sisters, are just a few of the celebrities who endorse this product. As far as snacks go, these cookies are one of the healthiest non-vegetable snacks you can eat
