The job market is tough for everyone now but there is no group that is having more difficulty than young teens. Wanting to find work, often for the first time, they are finding that they are too young and inexperienced to compete with older workers also looking for jobs. It seems they have the desire to work hard but no one is in the position right now to give them the chance.
The hardest hit of all might be 15 year olds because they are not quite old enough to get hired by most companies and there are few other options. It is at the age of fifteen that many children start looking for jobs either to earn more money for clothes, video games, dating, or to save up money for the car they might be able to drive the next year. Fifteen year olds have a genuine desire to earn money and right now all they face is rejection.
One of the bad things about this recession is that it is giving the young workers of today a bad impression of the workplace market. If the lack of jobs goes on much longer, these young workers will have less work experience than they should and may have a bad attitude once they do finally get hired. Once can only handle so much rejection before their views of the world become tainted.
Young kids unable to secure gainful employment may resort to creative means to find ways to support themselves. Typically, they might perform neighborhood household chores such as cutting lawns, babysitting, and various other sundry tasks that they can find. This type of thing has always provided extra income for many young people in any type of economic environment.
However, even that type of work is harder to get as fewer households have the money to pay teens for this kind of work. People are eating out less, which means less babysitting jobs. People are taking fewer vacations so that means fewer pet sitting opportunities. People are just mowing their lawns themselves and that means fewer yard work jobs.
This is just a tough time in general for any job seeker, no matter who it might be. Therefore teenagers just have to keep plugging away at it, and not give up hope. The more applications that you send in, the higher the probability that a company will contact you to arrange an interview and offer you the position that you want.
